John is Non-executive Chair at Companies House and UK Shared Business Services (UK SBS), and a Cabinet Office Crown Representative, as a Board Mentor.
Bringing many years of Board-level experience gained from non-executive roles at the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP), Ordnance Survey, UK Ministry of Defence, and the Rail Safety Standards Board (RSSB).
In his role at Companies House, John is at the forefront of the organisation’s most significant transformation since 1844. By leading the Board and supporting the executive team, John has oversight of cyber security, AI, governance, risk management and strategy. He is also currently Non-executive Director and Remuneration Chair at RSSB, the independent safety, standards and research body for Great Britain’s rail network, and a Crown Representative for the UK Government, where he is responsible for several strategic suppliers and has an industry focus on deep tech, including AI.
In his executive career, John was the Chair and Chief Executive Officer of the Mind Foundry, a leading Oxford-based AI company, and the Chief Information Officer at Primark and Morrisons. He served as Strategic AI Advisor for Silo.AI, the largest private AI services provider in the Nordics. He has held board-level global roles with Nokia and Tesco, and led a variety of corporate transactions as a Partner with EY.
John has proven experience working at the intersection of large-scale commercial and technology change and growth, scaling tech-enabled businesses, particularly when they face challenges such as execution drag, unclear choices, slow decision-making, systemic issues or when transformation is not landing in the right way.
