In the wake of numerous corporate scandals and a debilitating recession, the calls for more stringent corporate governance have become more persistent. In the UK, this governance has been built into corporate structure by enforcing a separation between the roles of CEO and chairman.

Criticaleye asked three former and current FTSE 100 chairmen and CEOs - Ian Harley, Alison Carnwath, and Helen Alexander - about the two roles and how to get the most out of the relationship between them.
