The Skills of a CPO

It is clear that chief people officers and HR leaders have found themselves in the mid-2020s with deep learnings from the uncertainties and changes brought about by recent global developments.

In this latest edition of their annual CPO Pathways Report, Criticaleye Partner, Eton Bridge Partners, researched over 7,500 CPO appointments in 2022 and 2023 and provided data from global companies exceeding $100 million turnover.

Key Takeaways Include:

  • HR is a profession that has unique capabilities in leading change, leveraging a compassion for others and blending this with a finely tuned strategic awareness
  • People function leaders will do well to further hone their skills in ‘selling’ the strategy by showing how it resonates with them personally and by storytelling to bring it to life
  • By allowing themselves to take the spotlight more often, the people function will effectively signal the deep contributions that they make to the success of the organisation
