Thought you knew the Scope 3 issues in your supply chain? Think again

Contributing to a cleaner environment has become a top priority for organisations all over the world, especially those who aim to be net zero. This report by Criticaleye partner Accenture (in collaboration with The United Nations Global Compact) delves into how businesses across various industries are currently reporting on their Scope 3 emissions and advises on how they can improve understanding of emissions reporting, in order to better contribute to net zero targets.

Key takeaways include:

  • Nearly two-thirds of upstream emissions lay beyond Tier 1 suppliers and in geographically complex networks.
  • “BRIC” Countries (Brazil, Russia, India and China) tend to see most of their upstream emissions concentrated within their country, whereas European Union countries are seeing theirs come from outside of their borders.
  • To accelerate progress in addressing Scope 3 emissions, companies need to act fast and move to a data-powered digital core – this is amongst five other key actions companies should focus on to begin making an impact.
