Hendrik is a seasoned executive with expertise in Board leadership, strategy formation, executing major transactions, ESG matters and corporate governance, and experience as a senior partner in a leading global law firm.
Hendrik is currently Senior Advisor for JERA Co., Inc. JERA is the largest electricity generator in Japan, has a key role in the energy transition in Asia and has a global footprint. JERA was formed in Japan as a 50-50 joint venture of Tokyo Electric Power Co and Chubu Electric Power Co. He served as Executive Chair during JERA’s key formative years. His accomplishments include leading the development of an original corporate culture, steering the company to a Net Zero emission strategy, and revamping governance processes to improve the effectiveness of the Board and management.
Hendrik has long involvement in Japan and global energy. He lived in Japan in the 1980s and, after graduate studies in law and international affairs, he began practicing law in Washington DC in 1988. He was a partner of White & Case LLP based in Tokyo from 2000 to 2014, where he was a leader of the firm’s global energy practice, focusing on LNG and power.
