Richard became Non-executive Chair of Eu Yan Sang International Ltd (EYSI) after stepping down as CEO in 2017. He started with Eu Yan Sang Holdings Ltd as its General Manager in 1989 and became Managing Director/CEO of EYSI in 1993.

Created in 1993 through a series of buyouts, EYSI was listed on SGX in 2000 and then privatised in 2016. Today, it is a leading integrative health and wellness company with a unique heritage in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Prior to joining the Eu Yan Sang business, Richard worked in merchant banking, investment management, stock broking, computer distribution and venture capital.

Richard was named the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2011 (Singapore) and represented Singapore at the Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur of The Year 2012 awards in Monte Carlo. He was also recognised as CEO of the Year by the Singapore Corporate Awards 2010, for SGX-listed companies with a market capitalisation of under S$300 million. In 2020, he was awarded the PBM (Public Service Medal) by the Singapore Government for services in the education sector.

Richard also sits on the Boards of several for-profit and non-profit organisations. He is married and has four children and one grandchild. In his spare time, Richard enjoys music, movies and tennis.

Richard holds a LLB (Hons) degree from the University of London.
