Simon spent more than 35 years in international banking, most recently serving as Chief Executive Officer of Corporate, Commercial & Institutional Banking (CIB) at Standard Chartered from 2016 to 2024. He also concurrently held responsibility for all the bank’s business in the Europe & Americas region from 2020, leading one of the bank's largest global businesses across multiple markets. During his tenure, he transformed the CIB division into one of Standard Chartered's strongest-performing businesses, increasing revenues from $7.5bn to $11.8bn and improving Return on Tangible Equity from 1.5% to 19.5% through disciplined execution, stronger client focus and enhanced capital allocation.
Prior to joining Standard Chartered, Simon spent over 25 years at HSBC, where he was Group Managing Director and Global CEO of Commercial Banking. He also held several senior international leadership positions, including Deputy Chairman and CEO for the Middle East and North Africa, CEO of HSBC Korea, and Head of Corporate & Investment Banking in Singapore. His experience spans corporate banking, investment banking, commercial banking, transaction banking, risk management, digital transformation and sustainable finance.
Simon currently serves as a Non-Executive Director of Nordea Bank and Olam Group, sitting on Risk, Audit and Sustainability Committees. He is also Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Lee Kong Chian School of Business. Throughout his executive career, he led organisations through the Global Financial Crisis, the Dubai debt crisis and COVID-19, while overseeing complex regulatory, governance and risk environments across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the Americas.
