Paul joined the board of Compass Group plc as a Non-Executive Director in January 2014 and was appointed Chairman in February 2014. He is also currently Chairman of Avanti Communications Group plc and non-executive director of FedEx Corporation, RM2 International S.A. and Simpsons Malt Limited. He served as a Non-Executive Director of Centrica PLC from March 2003 until May 2009, and as a Non-Executive Director of Unilever plc and Unilever NV from May 2009 until April 2015.
Paul stepped down as CEO of Diageo plc in July 2013, a position he had held since September 2000 and he remains an advisor to the CEO and Chairman. Paul served as the Chief Operating Officer of Diageo plc from January 1, 2000 to September 2000. He was also CEO and Chief Operating Officer of Guinness United Distillers & Vintners and also served as the Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Pillsbury Company from January 1992 to April 1996 and served as its Divisional Chief Executive of Pillsbury from 1990.
Paul joined the Brewing division of Grand Met in 1982, and served as its Finance Director from 1986, and served in various financial positions in the Brewing, Inter-Continental Hotels and the Food businesses of GrandMet. In 1989, he took over sales and marketing responsibilities at the Pillsbury North America division of The Pillsbury Company, then a wholly-owned subsidiary of GrandMet in 1992.
Paul is a Governor of the Henley Management Centre and Deputy Chairman of the Prince of Wales International Business Leaders Forum. He is a Member of the Business Council for Britain, and chairman of the Scotch Whisky Association.
