Chris is currently Non-executive Director of Xoserve, the Central Data Service Provider (CDSP) for Great Britain's gas market and a member of the Audit & Risk Committee. Chris is also Senior Independent Director of S4C, the Welsh language public service broadcaster. He is a member of the Council for Cardiff University and Chair of their Investment and Banking Sub-Committee.

He was for many years the Deputy Chair of The Prince’s Trust Advisory Committee in Wales and has been a Member of the CBI Council Wales, a Trustee of the Institute of Welsh Affairs and a Board Member of Water UK, the industry trade association. He was also an NED for seven years at The Principality - the UK’s sixth largest building society - and chaired their Remuneration Committee.

Some of his previous executive roles include Regulation Director for South Wales Electricity plc, Director of National Economic Research Associates and a spell at HM Treasury.

Chris was Co-Founder of Glas Cymru, the non-shareholder private company which acquired Welsh Water for £2 billion in 2001. As CEO of Welsh Water from 2013 to 2020, his main goals were to build a more diverse and inclusive team, with an overriding focus on customer service, building on the existing high professional standards. He led the development of the Welsh Water 2050 strategy, anticipating the impacts of climate change, changing customer expectations and the digital economy on its public service and also the Journey to Zero behavioural safety programme.

Chris chaired an internal subsidiary which developed renewable energy and organic waste treatment businesses, cutting Welsh Water’s carbon footprint by 80 percent by 2020. As CFO of the company between 2001 and 2013, he led the raising of around £3 billion in the capital markets, including the acquisition finance in 2001, which won the International Financing Review Deal of the Year award.

Chris has become a Welsh speaker as an adult and, in 2020, he was awarded a CBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
