EY Europe: Long-Term Value and Corporate Governance Survey 2023

The corporate world is no longer a stranger to sustainability. However, the climate change clock is ticking and we are running out of time to deliver on global sustainability targets. Despite the progress that has been made of late, there is still a lot more work to be done when it comes to tackling issues around sustainability. Now in it’s third edition, this report by our Partner EY examines how effective governance is key in driving value-led sustainability, and addresses the need to create more accountable systems to unlock increased value from sustainable business practices.

Key takeaways include:

  • 76 percent of experts are optimistic about their company’s revenue growth prospects over the next 12 months.
  • Over half of all respondents (55 percent) say their employees do not feel they are moving quickly enough on climate issues.
  • Only 7 percent of all respondents feel that sustainability is fully integrated into their Board’s structures and decision-making processes, and more than a quarter (27 percent) believe that significant change is still needed for sustainability issues to be fully integrated.
