Brendan HynesBoard Mentor
Brendan is currently Non-executive Chair of Swallowfield Plc, Senior Independent Non-executive Director at Churchill China Plc, and Non-executive Director at Footasylum plc and “Webexaminer” (a private, online education business), and a Board Bank member of Business in the Arts.
Brendan has Plc main board experience across a range of sectors including TMT, retail, consumer goods, buildings and automotive. Brendan retired as CEO of the soft-drinks business Nichols Plc in May 2013 to pursue a Non-executive portfolio career and was appointed as a Criticaleye Board Mentor in 2014.
Having joined Nichols plc in 2002 as Group Finance Director, Brendan was promoted to the role of CEO in November 2007. He initiated a strategic review, which resulted in the disposal of non-core divisions and properties, outsourced production and increased international marketing investment, NPD, new market growth and a multi-media marketing campaign. This resulted in net debt moving from £20 million into £40 million of positive cash, PBT increasing fivefold to £23 million, and the share price increasing from 90p to £10.00, creating more than £350 million of shareholder value along the way.
Nichols Plc was shortlisted out of 1,100 businesses for the AIM company of the year in both 2011 and 2012 and won the Queens Award for International trade in 2012. The business achieved double digit profit growth for 10 consecutive years to 2012 and is a Sunday Times three star “best companies” employer.
Prior to joining Nichols, Brendan was an Executive Director at Knowledge Management Software Plc and Group Finance Director at William Baird Plc, a branded clothing business. Earlier in his career he worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers where he was Director of the Consumer, Retail and Distribution (CRD) practice.
Brendan is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, and has an MBA from the Manchester Business School.
