Simon was a member of the Corporate Executive Team at the multinational pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline plc. Most recently, Simon was SVP - Governance, Ethics & Assurance, a role he held from January 2011 until his retirement at the end of 2014.
Simon was appointed as Company Secretary of GlaxoSmithKline plc in 2000, when the company was formed by the merger of Glaxo Wellcome plc and SmithKline Beecham plc. Prior to this he was Assistant Company Secretary of Glaxo Wellcome plc having joined the company in 1984. He became Corporate Compliance Officer in 2006, with responsibility for all compliance activities together with Global Security. He also held global responsibility for all Internal Auditing, Data Privacy and Product Quality activities.
In 2008 he was appointed to the Corporate Executive Team, which had global responsibility for running GlaxoSmithKline plc. During Simon’s 30 years with GlaxoSmithKline plc he was involved in numerous corporate transactions, joint ventures and business transformations.
After gaining his Law degree Simon qualified as a barrister in 1983 and is a member of Middle Temple.
