John Harrison

Independent Non-Executive Director

John is currently Independent Non-executive Director and Chair of the Audit Committee on the boards of AIA Group and BW Group. In addition to this he is Independent Non-executive Director on the board of Cathay Pacific Airways, and Vice Chairman and Chair of the Audit Committee of BW LPG. From 2011 until 2017 he was Independent Non-Executive Director and Chair of the Audit Committee on the board of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (“HKEX”) and their subsidiaries The London Metal Exchange and LME Clear Limited. 

John spent his professional career with KPMG, he held key leadership positions throughout the firm culminating with the position of Deputy Global Chairman of KPMG International, and retired from the firm in 2010. He has considerable experience in financial statements audit, assurance based advisory services, corporate governance and financial risk management.

Having joined KPMG in London in 1977, John moved to Hong Kong in 1983 and became a partner in 1987. During John’s career in KPMG's China practice he served in a number of leadership roles including Partner in Charge of Human Resources, Partner in Charge of Financial Services and Partner in Charge of Audit. In these roles John was also a member of a number of KPMG’s global leadership groups. In 2003 John was elected Chairman of KPMG China and KPMG Asia Pacific. He was also a member of KPMG International’s Council, Board and Global Executive Team from 2003 to 2010.

John was formerly a member of the Board of Inland Revenue of Hong Kong, President of the Hong Kong Cricket Club and was actively involved with the English Schools Foundation in Hong Kong. He is also a former Treasurer and a Member of the Council, Standing Committee, HR Committee (Deputy Chair) and Finance Committee (Chair) of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. From 2012 to May 2015, he was also a member of the Asian Advisory Committee of AustralianSuper Pty Ltd.

He is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and a member of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants. John graduated with a Degree in Mathematics from Durham University in 1977, and spends his time in both Hong Kong and the UK.
