John is pursuing a non-executive career in privately owned and private equity-backed businesses. His current roles are Non-executive Chair of Cellesce, a life sciences company that enables more effective discovery of new cancer drugs, and Non-executive Chair of Independent Growth Finance, the UK’s leading independent Asset Based Lender. IGF has been funding the working capital and growth aspirations for UK SMEs since 1997, working with businesses with turnover from £1M to £100M.

Previously, John was Chair of Borro Private Finance (2017-18), the luxury asset finance company, and Franchise Finance (2016-18), a specialist provider of asset finance and working capital loans for leading UK franchisees. As Executive Chair of Syscap (2010-15), John led the successful exit process which saw the business acquired by the Wesleyan Assurance Society from the majority shareholder AnaCap Financial Partners LLP in 2015. 

Prior to developing his portfolio career, John was CEO of AIM-listed company GoIndustry plc from 2004 to 2009. His earlier executive career was with GE and included roles as European Commercial Director at GE Capital Fleet Services, and Managing Director at GE Capital European Financing Solutions.

John’s passion is helping businesses to thrive in any economic environment, with particular emphasis on laying robust financial, strategic, people and technology foundations to enable profitable growth that leads to a successful exit.
